Creating the Future of Healthcare

Associate Professor Karashima is working toward a vision of ubiquitous healthcare—a system where anyone can access medical support anytime, anywhere. Through AI-powered medical professional agents and disease prediction tools, individuals will be able to intuitively understand their health status and take appropriate action. In the virtual space known as the XR Healthcare Lab (tentative name), immersive health support will be delivered beyond the limitations of location and time. This approach not only reduces the burden on healthcare professionals but also enables efficient, personalized care—bringing the future of medicine closer to reality.? ???

A Cross-Disciplinary Team Creating Healthcare for the Working Generation

Associate Professor Karashima’s showcase project features a virtual space where users can manage their health through game-like interactions with avatars. Drawing on his expertise in medicine, he has formed a cross-disciplinary team with Professor Hidetaka Nanbo, an expert in artificial intelligence from Faculty of Transdisciplinary Sciences for Innovation,Institute of Transdisciplinary Sciences for Innovation, and Assistant Professor Akitaka Higashi, a specialist in Emerging Media Initiative. Together with students, they are working to bring this vision to life. Their goal is to support busy working individuals by offering accessible tools like a “clinic inside your smartphone”, enabling everyday health management. To realize this future of healthcare, the team is actively seeking new partners to join their mission.
