Kanazawa University Hospital has been selected for the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare’s “FY2025 Project for Establishing Centers for Training Physicians with Comprehensive Clinical Competence.” On Wednesday, October 1, 2025, the hospital reorganized its former Department of General Medicine and established the Center for Co-Creation in General Medicine.
The Center consists of two divisions: the Department of General Medicine, which handles clinical services, and NOTO Lab, which focuses on education and research. The Department of General Medicine provides comprehensive medical care that is not limited by specialty fields, accepting referrals from local medical institutions for patients who are difficult to diagnose or unsure which department to consult. Under the guidance of specialist physicians, the department also fosters an environment where medical students and residents can actively participate in clinical practice, thereby promoting the development of the next generation of general practitioners.
NOTO Lab aims to strengthen collaboration with medical institutions in regions such as northern Noto, where enhancing the healthcare system is a pressing issue. It seeks to build a framework in which Kanazawa University and local communities work together to train general practitioners and conduct research that contributes to solving regional challenges.
The term “co-creation” reflects the Center’s commitment to working hand-in-hand not only with the hospital, but also with local medical institutions, government bodies, and citizens to build the future of community healthcare. Through this initiative, the Center for Co-Creation in General Medicine will serve as a hub for training general practitioners and strive toward realizing sustainable regional healthcare.
